The type of work performed by illegal aliens is manual labor. If the severely disabled people were able to perform these tasks most businesses would be happy to hire them. This assumes that their handicap wouldn't interfere with their ability to perform the same work as the illegal immigrant.
The problem here is really economic rather than ethics. Who can perform the work better for less money? The illegal aliens will often work for anything that will allow them to live in this country. We're not talking about living well. We're talking about enough food to keep from starving even if it comes out of the garbage. Enough shelter to keep them from dying of exposure. These people are desperate enough to risk everything they have for a chance. A chance for a better life for themselves and their families. Clearly where they come from offered less of a chance at that future than coming here does. Would you face rape, robbery, or death to get the job you have now? These people do all the time for jobs that are much worse than what most of us would even consider.
Lets face it. Being born in the US isn't a job skill. Its luck. Citizens here were literally born lucky. Many non-citizens get the short end of the stick. They're not born in countries with high standards of living. The only way to prevent the flow of illegal aliens into this country is to make their lives better wherever they came from. If we have the resources and intelligence to overcome our current economic problems then we have what it takes to improve the lives of others in their countries. What we really need is the will to do so.
So, does that mean I don't care about the handicapped people in our own country. Heck no! The biggest problem with employing handicapped people in the United States is a lack of vision. Employers are not willing to give these people a chance to show what they can do. Physical ability has nothing to do with mental acuity. We need to make better use of all of our resources. The old, the young, or those with handicaps. If we could learn to use the internet effectively then it wouldn't matter if we were in wheelchairs. It wouldn't matter how quickly we can type. Who cares if you have to type by blowing in a tube as long as you get your work done? We could be the picture perfect employees. Literally. Put a picture in front of the output device and we can be anyone you like. Just give us all a reasonable chance to succeed. An unbiased chance.
