Why mining is essential to survival: What the environmentalists are missing

Why Mining is Essential to survival: What the Environmentalist are missing.

Mining is essential to survival for the main fact that apart from air and sunlight, practically everything needed for living comes out of the earth.

A look at the chemical composition of the human body for instance shows that there are need for iron, copper, zinc, aluminum, sodium, copper, manganese, magnesium, sulphur, potassium, calcium, carbon, fluorine, bromine, iodine and several other elements.

Most of these elements are present in various levels of deposits in the earth at different places in the earth and in order to tap them in the purest forms they must be extracted from the earth as impure compounds initially.

The human body requires most of these elements in very small percentages for the body systems to work efficiently.

Potassium for example is essential for the motor and sensory nerves to operate in our nervous system while calcium and fluorine plays major role in the maintaining the strength and stability of our bones and teeth throughout life.

It is important to locate and extract these elements, then they are refined, and marketed to the different market points so that people can live and fulfill their lives purposes.

Mining from the earth is also an excellent source of wealth for many countries that would otherwise remain impoverished for centuries. The country of Chile for example profited greatly from the rich deposit of copper that was found there.

Many farms worldwide would have continued to yield low outputs had not sulphur been extracted using the Frasch process to combine with nitrogen and oxygen from the air to produce Ammonium Sulphate , which is a vital fertilizer to growth and development of young plants.

The high levels of output from farms worldwide, provides more food to the nations of the world and this is all because of elements mined from the earth.

The elements in the earth were placed there for mankind's benefit especially in the process of replenishment and sustenance. The benefits far outweigh the negatives of mining and these are what the environmentalist are not looking at.

It is crucial of course for all extractions from the earth meets the environmental assessment impact requirements as much as possible, but outright trying to prevent mining from the earth is too excessive and will lead to the retardation of human health and economic development.

Countries that needs medical equipment needed in orthodontics or hematology for example, would pay a cheaper
