When I first heard about Harry Potter, I was too prejudiced about buying and reading the book. All my friends were so fond of reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and I remember how I resisted reading the book when they offered me their copy. When the movie came out, I decided to give it a shot. I watched it at home, from DVD, with my sister and some friends. I was not wrong, the story was not worth watching, - or reading! That was the end of my Harry Potter journey, or at least that was what I thought at the time. A few summers later, I was wandering around the book shelves in a book store, when I came across with Harry Potter books, on sale. I do not exactly remember whether it was the fact that they were on sale that tempted me, but I bought my first Harry Potter book that day. I did not buy the first book, or the second book, but the third one, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban. To my suprise, the book captured me, and I finished it in two days, and found myself on the way to the same book store to buy the next one in the series.
Among all the Harry Potter books that I read
I only did not read the first book, and I think it's because of the movie the one that stole my heart the most is the third one, the Prisoner of Azkaban. I now think that it's partially because it is the book that introduced me to the world of magic, wizards and witches, Harry, Ron, Hermione and the powers of the dark side. The other reason why I so much enjoyed reading Prisoner of Azkaban is that it is the first book that Harry started making magic with the help of Professor Remus Lupin. The Patronus charm he managed to make towards the end of the book saved Sirius Blake from Dementors. Black, whom we kept thinking throughout the book as a character from the dark side, turned out to be Harry's godfather and legal guardian. Moreover, it was also surprising to find out that Harry actually traveled back in time with Hermione, and casted the Patronus spell himself, which he thought and we thought was his father, for a long time. In addition to that, Prisoner of Azkaban, is one of the rare books in the series where none of the characters from the good sides dies. Almost all of the deaths, started with Sirius Black, continued with
Dumbledore and many others, broke my heart. But in this book, all the characters manage to survive, and I think that's one of the reasons why I like it the most.
