If you pick up a newspaper today or turn on your TV it is really easy to become disheartened by all that is occurring in our world today. Our nation is currently involved in two wars, and a financial crisis that seems to only deepen with each passing day. What are we implored to do to forget these problems? We are told to buy the newest car on the market, the best new cell phone, or a bigger HDTV. We have become a country of people that wants everything to be easier, better, and more comfortable. I say we because I am including myself in this as much as anyone else. But, what if, just, what if all that wasn't the point of life? What if all of that serves only as a distraction to what life was truly all about?
The bible tells an incredible story of God creating an amazing earth filled with blue seas, vast snow covered peaks, and bottomless canyons. Amongst the rivers streams and majestic forests that sprawl across the landscape God creates human beings male and female. In the awe and wonder of this scene God gave those humans a purpose to live. That purpose was simply to live in a relationship with him, and each other. There were various other tasks to including repopulating the earth, and caring for it. Sadly, these first to humans (as we all have) decided that this simply was not enough. We wanted more. And so we turned toward finding our own way. Not only did we turn away from God and his purpose for our existence, some went so far as to attempt to disprove his existence altogether. God did not give up on us though. Even as we turn our back on him and go about our own way which is leading us to destruction he holds no grudge or anger. He holds out his hand beckoning us back to him. He sent his son to pay the price for our mistakes. He invited us back to this life that he had in mind from the beginning; a life of joy, beauty, and passion.
After all that we have experienced the pain, the heartache, the depression, and the fear. We often feel like this is not possible. I mean it's almost like a faire tale. I mean this is the real world. Right? That was all ancient myth something from a long time ago that inspired some people but doesn't work in our world today. But, What if it was true? What if there was a God who saw you as is most prize possession? What if you could experience a life filled with love and hope? What if someone did free your heart to be everything you were meant to be? Wouldn't it at the very least be worth a try?
I think deep down we know it
