Finding spiritual peace in a tough economy

Spiritual peace is as easy to find in a tough economy as it is amid a pile of money. And as hard.

The truth is that if we lack the spiritual balance to accept the temporary nature of our jobs and our financial situation, then we will be as uncomfortable in a job we love as we are in a job we hate. Without a sense of spiritual balance, we are as frightened of losing profits as we are of overcoming losses. In times of boom, however, we soften our spiritual unease by spending money. We find it harder to do that in times like these.

Therefore, the economic downturn offers a great opportunity to practice the meditation, self-realization and sense of joy that will bring us spiritual peace, increased psychic ability and true spiritual balance. We can begin by practicing a meditation of acceptance.

Meditation

Many loud ads promise methods to regain our lost money, start recession-proof careers or profit from the current climate. That sounds great. We'd all like to know how to turn this around and stop hurting now. Unfortunately while it all passes eventually, this crisis may deepen and endure longer than most of realize. Justine Kenzer, a professional psychic and healer with an international reputation, has even predicted it will last until 2012. Many analysts agree.

Fighting may only make the pain last longer. So instead of looking for a way out, let's start finding a way through. Accept that the current situation exists. Accept that it will exist for some time to come.

This will not be easy for many of us. We don't like losing money, jobs or prestige, and the current crisis threatens all of us. However, we can still learn to accept situations even if we don't like them. Meditation helps.

Meditation may seem difficult even to those who can understand its importance. We feel intimidated by the thought of "formal" scheduled meditation. In reality, most of us do practice a form of meditation. Whenever we find a quiet way to free ourselves from the cycle of planning tomorrow's accomplishments or overcoming yesterday's mistakes, we are practicing a form of meditation. Taking a warm bath can be a form of meditation. So can taking a few deep breaths before starting a new task.

We only need to find a way to celebrate and schedule these quiet moments. In prosperity, we often meditate only when we have "free" time. Meditating in the same place at the same time every day can help us to gain the acceptance we need.

Maire K. C. Smith reminds us that we can start by accepting that we don't
