Christianity and the question of "riches"

by Gary Lewis

Created on: January 19, 2009

Prosperity is God given, Christians still here on earth have Gods blessings in Heaven and on earth. Can you imagine non-believing people charging in to join a "religion", to be "Christians", where the people are as poor as they are? What changes except for the title? God wants us to prosper in order that we may bring others to know Jesus, he wants us to feed the hungry, clothe the poor and minister to the sick. Sure, we can do these things poor. We can do so very much more by prospering.

. People often quote James 4:2, " You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask."(NKJV). Some say because you do not ask, you do not get. I believe that some of those people quoting James 4:2 want prosperity without doing what God wants them to do to get it. Read the next verse which says " You ask and you do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." James 4:3 (NKJV). If you ask me, just to keep if to yourself, that is stingy and to prosper you God would be sending the wrong signals. God is never wrong, and he is never late.

Let me ask you these questions, "Would you buy your son or daughter a brand new car for being just the worst kid on the block? For causing you grief? Getting lousy grades? Constantly whining, complaining, ignoring your rules. Who hook from class, lie, cheat and steal? Wouldn't that be sending the opposite message to them?

As Christians, we are joint heirs to the throne of God. Do you truly believe that the creator of all the billions of stars above, all the planets including the earth and everything on it wants his children crawling in the dirt of this world? I don't. There is a catch of sorts though. Deuteronomy 7:9 states, "Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep His commandments;" (NKJV).

God will heap blessings and riches upon his heirs; to receive them, we have to love him and keep his commandments. Be generous to the poor. In Deuteronomy 15:11 it is written, " For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.'"

Stand up tall, know that you are joint heirs with Jesus to the throne of the Almighty, keep God first in your life, do what he asks and in his timing I believe his blessings will chase you down.
