Giving started way back in the biblical days such as when the three wise men gave gifts to the baby Jesus. Giving is something that many of us do around birthdays or holidays and it is something that we enjoy doing. Receiving gifts can also be fun but it is truly more fun to give than it is to receive.

During the holiday months I take the dreaded weeks before the holidays to do all of my shopping and even though it can be tiresome I still enjoy seeing the look on their face when they open my gift.

Even those who have no money can still benefit emotionally by giving the gift of help. If you see someone on the side of the road with a flat and you were to help them change their tire you may feel this since of accomplishment after helping them. The feeling of knowing that you were able to help someone is almost priceless.

After you have children you may go through different stages of their lives where you can't wait to get them certain things such as their first skateboard or their first bike. These gifts are those that we love to give our kids but it is still us giving and not receiving. As a parent myself, I love the feeling that I get when I see my children opening up their gifts and looking in amazement when they see what was beneath the wrapping paper and through the box.

Although shopping for our loved ones and friends can be hectic, it is still fun when it is done and over with. Finding the perfect gift for that special someone is only half the fun when you get to imagine them opening it up and then seeing it for real.

There are plenty of reasons why giving is better than receiving and this article only lists a few. I have given and received many gifts in my lifetime and nothing beats being able to give a gift from the heart to someone that you care about.

I am not always able to give the things that I would like to give but I make it up through out the year by giving the children other things that they like or need. I also have a rule of thumb if I am not able to get anyone any gifts or if I am short on cash; I simply ask that others don't buy me gifts so that I don't have to buy them one and then I am able to spend more on my children.

My children are always the first ones on my list and often the last ones that I buy for since I often find more items that I would like to get them while I am out shopping for others. I tend to spend more than what I had intended too but it is still fun.
