As I age, I am quickly growing into that 'crazy' cat lady that you always hear about ... you know, eccentric, forty cats following behind her, the scent of kitty perfume preceding her in every direction. Oh Lawd! Spare me from this fate, I've often groaned. But .. here I sit, and not alone mind you because my darlin husband is right here with me ... two, old, eccentric crazy cat people! And, we are quite pleased with ourselves and our kitty family.
It all started with Louie! Yes. It is Louie's fault. Louie was a Maryland 'barn' cat .. NOT ! He was a beautiful chocolate point Siamese mixed with American short hair who we discovered was very good at winning over kitty detractors. He was lovable, kind, mannerly and very pretty, not to mention soft and cuddly. Everybody loved Louie. He lived a happy and full life even after we relocated to Florida. Louie was happy no matter where he was. But ... age took its toll on him. He strode off into the woods one day soon after he turned 16 never to return. We think he had a date with fate and sadly, we knew he wasn't coming home.
We tried other kitties, but none were like Louie. We found Josie, a white-mitted Seal Point/American Shorthair mix. She was sweet, but took off after depositing her little of pure cream colored kitties - three! Try as we might, we couldn't save them all, except for one little tough kitty who we called "Kwee-Kwee". The poor little thing could do nothing but bawl; its mother gone, its siblings gone, poor little dear just said "kwee, kwee, kwee, kwee" .. so .. its name stuck ! And, she grew up to be a beautiful blue point siamese mix kitty. "The Kwee" went to live with my daughter and ... broke out of her apartment one night to hang out with the local boys. Of course, Kwee came home impregnated which resulted in two cute little babies. My daughter kept Kwee and her daughter, Beanie, and we took the boy kitty, whom we named Ralphie.
Ralphie was a mackerel tabby and huge. His nickname was 'punkin head' for obvious reasons when you saw him ... huge head, huge body ... little teeny 'meoooo'. We just loved Ralphie and spoiled the dickens out of him .... sigh ... but he was lonely. So ... my daughter brought over three playmates for Ralphie. We now had a solid gray kitty we called Shadow, her brother who was a red and white shorthair who we called Creamsicle and a quiet, shy tuxedo kitty we called Blackie.
It didn't take Ralphie too long before he became king of the land with both Shadow and Blackie hatching
