It can be difficult to maintain our spiritual balance during these current economic times. The news is filled with words like layoffs, cutbacks, bank failures, rising foreclosures, major companies declaring bankruptcy, bailouts and more. The list goes on and on.
Before you know it your thinking "What would happen if I lose my job? How am I going to pay for college for my kids? What if mom or dad needs to come live with us, what'll I do? How can I get the car fixed and keep working? These questions or those of similar vein swirl through our heads without us even realizing they're there until we're so full of fear and trepidation we can't sleep at night.
Our spiritual practice, be it meditation or pray, is more important now than ever to assist us in maintaining our footing in the world while still accessing spiritual peace and spiritual balance. Now, more than ever, we need to lean into the wind and protect our equilibrium so we can continue to anchor peace and serenity here in our world for ourselves and others.
For those of us that do not experience a high level of psychic ability, and therefore do not know how this will all turn out, it's easy to get caught up in the mob anxiety. Yet there are things we can do in our daily lives to keep ourselves standing on a spiritual point of clam and peace. We do not have to get caught up in a tidal wave of anxiety over something we really do not have much control over anyway. We can only make choices where our own lives and habits are concerned.
First, limit the amount of news you listen to or watch on a regular basis. It is too easy to lose your sense of balance when you allow yourself to be saturated in the very thing that is bringing you down. It's like getting caught in quicksand. The very thing you are struggling to get out of is surrounding you and sucking you down into its grip. Stay in touch with the world, but not immersed in it.
If you are on a diet, you wouldn't go sit in a bakery or candy store for an hour, you would just be setting yourself up for failure. It's the same thing with the news. No matter where you get your news, on-line, in the paper or by radio/television, the economy is the main topic discussed. We can stay in tune with current events yet don't need to soak in a hot bath of fear and angst about what is or isn't happening. Limit your news intake to only a few minutes a day.
Secondly, learn to focus on one task at a time. Become fully present in the moment you are currently in. Use all of your senses
