least 11 of the 18 sites designated as trigger points. These trigger point sites include the base of the neck, in front of the hip and elbow, along the backbone, and at the rear of the knee and shoulder.

There is not a specific laboratory test for fibromyalgia. There are proteins known as antipolymer antibodies in about half of the individuals who are diagnosed with fibromyalgia. There is a blood test that indicates the presence of these antibodies and is someitmes helpful in diagnosing this disorder in some individuals.

Since there is no cure for fibromyalgia, treatment is managing the symptoms of the disorder. This disease does not worsen with time. Usually treament includes therapies, exercise, getting enough rest and diet. There is no medication specific for this disorder. Medications are sometimes given to treat the symptoms of pain, sleeping problems and depression.

Getting enough rest is an essential treatment of fibromyalgia. Avoiding stimulating foods or drinks like coffee and caffeinated soda are encouraged.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder, but it is not progressive and it is not fatal. Some individuals have to cut back on their work schedule or find a less demanding type of job. There is no way of preventing this disease. There are still many people who believe there is no such disease as fibromyalgia, the answer to the non believers is to provide them with the facts that this disease really does exist and it is not a made up disorder.
