Gift certificates to his or her favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or department store are all a means to get your elderly person out and enjoying life. A pair of tickets to a local hockey game, concert or other local event are other wonderful choices. Even if the elderly person on your gift list is a single remember to provide an extra ticket so he or she can take along a friend. Events are always more fun when you are able to discuss them with a friend afterwards.

If the senior on your gift list has a sweet tooth, or some other food preference, than a nice gift basket of their favorite goodies is always a wise choice. Slip in a lottery ticket among their treats as this always gives them something to look forward to. A two dollar lottery ticket can provide more dreams than most hundred dollar gifts can, so even if they don't win on that ticket, it is always worth the investment. Little surprises, just because they are surprises, make them special. When you do up a basket include a few little unexpected treats. If the elderly person on your list likes crossword or word search puzzles, then include in a couple books, new pencils and erasers in their treat basket. If they play cards quiet frequently, as do a lot of seniors, include in their package some all plastic cards, large numbered cards, new pencils and score pads.

Anything that makes the elderly person on your list smile, be it a cat theme, a puppy theme, angels or good luck charms, use it to make his or her gift sparkle. It doesn't take much to make a simple gift special, a little humor, a bit of a theme, and a whole lot of unexpected surprises! It is the love of life that really makes us young, and these little extra touches to a gift, can make the special person on your list feel like a kid again. It doesn't have to cost a lot. It just takes a little thought.
