Finding spiritual peace in a tough economy

by Tammy Stoner

Do you remember when you were a child in school, and drills were conducted just in case earthquakes, fires, or tornadoes happened? The school prepared you to be ready for the sudden, unexpected winds of change.

Today, we face an unexpected economic downturn, not witnessed since the great depression, and as the clouds of uncertainty surround us, we must be prepared to cope with confusion, and chaos swirling around our very being, so that we can maintain spiritual balance and harmony, in its midst.

While change is never easy, it is inevitable. We continually face upsets, and unbalance, at times when it is the least expected, and, when we are least prepared. Perhaps it would be easier to cope, if we knew when the change was going to happen, but like earthquakes, tornadoes, or fires that can and do happen, we often don't know when they will occur. This is why schools ask us to practice for them, before they happen, so that we are prepared, when they do happen.

Businesses coping with reduced sales eliminate jobs. The car breaks down. The bills pile up, on the kitchen table. Turn on the television set, and watch reports of skyrocketing unemployment. Read the newspaper, and learn about foreclosures happening in your town. And, you and everybody around you, become distressed with the unexpected change, upsetting your equilibrium.

Maintaining spiritual balance, and spiritual harmony, in the midst of tempestuous storms, demands the same dedicated practice once applied in school, when you were instructed to prepare for unexpected fires, tornadoes, and earthquakes.

Turbulent winds require that you tap into your psychic power, your psychic ability, and your psychic energy, to withstand winds tossing you from side to side. Spiritual balance, spiritual peace, and spiritual harmony occur with practice, and discipline.

It's not easy to keep your equilibrium, and maintain your sanity in the midst of the storm. Yet, your very survival depends upon learning skills to keep peace and harmony within yourself, while living in a haze of uncertainty.

Meditation is one, but not the only answer, in maintaining spiritual peace. Meditation is a learned skill, and one that can be practiced. Ask any professional trained in the art of meditation, and they will all tell you the same. When practicing meditation, find a quiet spot to center thoughts, focus on your breathing, and still thoughts, to gain the best results.

You cannot center thoughts in the midst of turmoil, unless you have practiced the skill first. Find a quiet, peaceful place in or out of your home, that is undisturbed, and will leave you uninterrupted. The idea of meditation is to still the mind, and remove it of clutter. One of the best ways to begin practicing meditation is to focus on breathing.

Practice noticing each breath you inhale and exhale. Breathing is the quintessential life force. It's basic, and so often forgotten in learning to relax. Focusing on the breath, is honing in on the basic life force, and will begin to taper off tumultuous thoughts, and with time provide spiritual peace and harmony.

Some find meditation occurs best when listening to music or relaxing sounds. Some people prefer sounds of the ocean, or of a rain forest to achieve a tranquil state of mind. Regardless of the sounds you listen to, keep in mind the focus on the breath, in efforts to still the mind.

Many try to find answers to cope with unexpected upsets through focusing on thinking skills. However answers rest in intuitive psychic ability far more often. Psychic ability is not a prerequisite to finding solutions, but reaching deep into the soul to uncover answers, can and often does offer solutions.

We have all heard that the answer to problems rests in the "gut". In each of us lies a knowing force, and this force rests in our guts, not in our heads. After you have meditated, and stilled turbulent thoughts, ask your gut, for the answers to questions, that you want to know. The odds are great that you will have them. Each of us has a life force, a universal knowledge, resting within, and all of us, contain the ability to know, what it is that we don't know.

We cannot ignore the mind, as thoughts that fill the mind, frequently create the reality that we experience. When we are consumed by despair, there are statements that we can tell ourselves that help to calm ourselves down, and maintain our spiritual peace, and harmony.

Statements such as "this to shall pass", "when one door closes, another opens", and "God doesn't give us more than we can handle", are reminders, that we have the skills to cope with change and transitions in our lives. These are comments that remind us that we can make it through struggling times, and that "this too shall pass."

Finding spiritual peace and harmony in the midst of foggy skies, takes practice and discipline. It demands that you practice meditating, stilling turbulent thoughts, and it requires that you listen to the gut, and the inner voice, while filling the mind with hopeful positive thoughts.

Just like when you practiced drills in early school days preparing for tornadoes, fire and earthquake, you must practice drills today. When you practice ways to manage mayhem, you are guaranteed to find spiritual peace, and, spiritual harmony in the midst of despair.

Fill thoughts with positive affirmations, uncover answers from the gut, and tap into your inner psychic ability, and you will discover spiritual peace. And, when you discover this inner peace, you will maintain equilibrium, virtually guaranteeing that tomorrow will be a brighter day, complete with calm sky, whether the economic downturn changes or not.
