The state of Britain today

One has to wonder why, exactly, Britain fought so hard in WW2 to retain its Sovereignty, followed by a determined effort to repel communism in the Cold War? Looking back from a personal perspective in 2009, it seems to me that Britain has given away all that our parents and grandparents fought so hard to retain - the freedom to think, believe and act as independent citizens of an independent nation.

Firstly, what was the professed purpose of WW2? We are led to believe that it was a war against the evils of state domination of the people, a war to give people the right to choose how to live and to feel secure in their own homes without fear of those in power interfering in individual life. It was a war to keep Britain a free and independent country, answerable only to its own citizens. And the Cold War? Why was it so important to fight against world domination by communism and socialism? Why was it so important that the British people's taxes be channeled into keeping an enormous military budget to keep the evils of socialism at bay?

These questions need to be asked as one reviews the present state of the UK and realises that over the past few decades Britain has, without a single shot being fired, embraced the very socialism and willingly given up the very independence that our forebears were led to believe was worth giving up their lives to prevent and protect!

The current Labour dominated government would have us believe that all Britons are equal. Since this is obviously not possible, they would 'make' it so by pulling down those that work hard to rise above the ordinary in an effort to lift up the lazy and uneducated that are happy to live off the state and have no ambitions to better their lot. In order to be able to feed, house and educate these lazy layabouts for free, the few productive members of society are heavily taxed in every aspect of their lives and discouraged from trying to give their children a better life and education. Those that are prepared to work for what they want are labeled as 'elitists' and are ridiculed for wanting to better themselves. Is this not the very essence of socialism?

Britain has more CCTV cameras tracking their citizens every move than any other country in the world - is this not the province of a communist state? Britain's worthless Labour government is continuously implementing more and more powers to track and monitor every aspect of daily life, even to passing legislation making it legal to listen to our private telephone calls and read our email - using the terrorist threat as a convenient excuse. Even local councils can now use these powers to spy on their residents in such minor matters as whether they recycle their rubbish properly! There is no part of every day life that the government can not investigate, control and interfere in.

How sad would our forebears be to know that everything they fought for is now considered worthless and that, without even the pretence of a fight, we have allowed ourselves to become this sad and pathetic country, controlled by a few greedy and manipulative politicians.

Communism is far from dead - it lives and thrives in the once 'Great' Britain!
