Poetry: The stand-off

by Garry Shepherd

Created on: January 18, 2009

It's you and me,

In a stand off.

You, stepping on my toes,

Me, walking you around on them.

The stand off begins,

we'll see, who wins, this round.

I am afraid, like so many times before,

that you will win,

you have more energy than I.

With your mischievious smile,

As I dance you around the floor,

In this stand-off, we have it every day.

I always lose, for I am old,

Mabey one day, the odds will become even,

and the energy I lack, will somehow be matched,

to yours, And I will win,

this energy stand-off,

but for now, I succumb

to my weakness, and fall to the floor,

laughing, for you have won the energy stand-off again,

and I am too tired to play,

anymore today.
