Ten ways to improve your psychic abilities

We all have latent psychic ability. It's just a matter of developing it.

The key to successful psychic work is to regularly practice methods that awaken the inner world whilst increasing sensitivity to the spiritual world around us.

This can seem daunting. It needn't be. Follow these ten tips and you'll soon find your abilities increase.

Practice regularly

In the same way that a regular exercise routine increases your fitness levels, so a commitment to a regular psychic workout is a must. It's the only way to develop your psychic muscles.

 Take a look at your week and work out how regularly you can practice. Work out a schedule and stick to it. Identify a quiet place with a calm atmosphere and use it for your practice.

Stay Grounded

An over inflated ego is a great stumbling block to psychic development. Wanting to develop a talent or skill is fine but its important that pride does not dominate. This can lead to the meaning of spiritual messages being clouded by the practitioners self importance.

Cultivating a grounded approach. Don't take yourself too seriously. View early failures with humour, don't take them to heart or view them as an affront to your dignity. You'll get much further with a relaxed view to the whole process.

Learn to Breathe.

Breathing deeply and regularly helps to calm and balance the mind, putting it in a receptive state for spiritual development. Get into the habit of regulating your breathing, especially before a practice session.

Try this method: breath in deeply from the diaphragm to the slow count of two followed by a slow out breath of three. Repeat until you feel centred and your mind is open and receptive.

Open Your Senses.

You cannot develop your sixth sense if you do not fully use the other five. Sight, sense, smell, touch and taste are our first points of contact with the world around us. By paying attention to the subtle messages they convey, we can begin to make psychic contact with the spiritual forces around us.

Take a walk or pick a place to sit quietly. How does the air feel on your skin? What can you see and hear? What can you taste on the wind? What can you smell? Be mindful of how you react to these messages, and the mental images they cultivate.

 If practised regularly, this approach allows an awareness for the non physical feel of places, seasons, even individual plants. 

 Learn to Meditate

Meditation is a great discipline for stilling the mind and helping it to focus on a fixed point- essential for helping to develop latent psychic abilities and contacting your higher self.

Pick a focus for your meditation. It could be a mantra, your breath or a visual or mental focal point such as a simple symbol. Still your breathing and gently fix your attention on your focus without reacting or judging it. If random thoughts distract you, discard them and gently redirect them. Practice for five to ten minutes a day.

Develop your imagination

 The key to interpreting spiritual messages is being able to translate them into mental images that have meaning. This is where the imagination comes in; it doesn't help you fantasies, it helps you visualise.

An excellent method to help develop your imagination is the use of the tarot, not as a divinatory tool but as an index of symbols. Take the major arcane and look at the symbols and pictures on each card. Note your reactions. What feelings and associations arise with each image? Likewise, see what mental images your mind forms from different feelings and associations.

Learn to Visualise.

Visualisation and path workings help develop spiritual intuition and efficient channels for psychic contact. They involve a structured pathway that guides you on an inner journey. Although the structure of the path working is predetermined, it leaves room for individual experience and insight.

Visualised path workings can be bought ready taped or you can record them yourself. If you are lucky, you may have a friend who could act as a guide and read out the path working to you. Relax before beginning the path working and note down the individual revelations that are revealed to you.

Candle Meditation

This is an excellent way to expand your perceptions and concentrate your mind. Take a lit candle and watch the flame carefully for about a minute. Now close your eyes and focus on the image left on your retina. Ignore all over thoughts and attempts at mental distractions. Do not try to alter the image. After five minutes, open your eyes.

Be aware of your Aura

Your aura is your psychic connection with the spiritual world around you. Becoming aware of your aura helps strengthen that connection, making you aware of blockages that can hinder psychic perception.

Get to know your aura by visualising it. Imagine it as a sphere of colourless light. Imagine this sphere contains your whole body. See it shine. As you practice this method, you will become more aware of its extent and individual colours as well as the subtle in connection between it and your physical self and the seen and unseen world around you..

Pick one system and stick with it.

There are vast arrays of different psychic disciplines: clairvoyance, clairaudience, medium ship, psychometry, not to mention the many methods of divination.

In order to develop your abilities successfully, don't try to master every method. Consider what you want to achieve from your psychic abilities and what your feel most drawn to. This should help you select the most suitable method for you. Make this the focus for your practice. You are more likely to become proficient.
