Maintaining a spiritual balance during trying economic times can be easier for some more than others. Dependent upon how spiritual your life is during normal times, one can find the sudden economic downturns quite distressing. People tend to look for spiritual peace with a much heartier appetite during tough times such as those we are currently experiencing.
A spiritual balancing can begin with putting the current economic climate in perspective. How materialistic are you to begin with? How directly are the hard times affecting you? Have you been displaced by your employer? Are you still working but fearful of what changes are yet to come? Are you self-employed? What is your "Plan B" should you have to face any significant changes economically in the near future?
Coming to terms on a realistic level with what level of risk you are at will help you to be practical and plan for your economic future, but how do you gain a spiritual peace and maintain that spiritual balance with such heavy concerns weighing you down?.

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever and ever in the next."
Meditating on the Serenity Prayer can help to bring a sense of inner spiritual balance as it helps us to realize that we are not in control of all things, we are only in control of ourselves, as individuals, and must learn to find that spiritual peace to maintain stability in our lives.
Another recommendation for maintaining a spiritual balance during these difficult times is to truly evaluate your priorities. Examining those things that exist in our lives that bring us peace and happiness that are not material in nature is an excellent reminder that money does not buy happiness.
Are our loved ones safe? Are our children happy? Are we able to provide ourselves and our loved ones with food, clothing, shelter, love and compassion?
If we have these things available
