You were there, understanding, caring
When I felt lost & alone, misunderstood
And so very wrong about past attitudes
So very wrong about all that had gone on
~
You stood beside me, a friend guiding me,
When I couldn't find a way through the day
And all that was inside me was gloom & doom
A feeling of dread that is unspeakable
~
You accepted me, never rejecting me
When I couldn't accept myself
And all I felt seemed to scream painfully
Reminding me of each and every mistake
~
You were there, a whisper of love
Amid the destruction and self-hatred
Like a smile shining into the hurt
Silencing the voice of pain that remained
~
You taught me how to give from my heart
With kindness that could never be bought
Sincerely and serenely, you showed me
What it is to truly appreciate another soul
~
You were there, patiently waiting the time
When I might catch a glimpse of hope
Hope that knows there is tomorrow
Another chance, a new day
Another way to say
Thank you
