The word of God "became flesh" and lived among men.(John 1:14) The reason for this special manifestation was to "destroy the devil's work."(1 John 3:8) Since man has flesh, Jesus shared in humanity in order to put an end to the devil - the one who possessed the "power of death".(Hebrews 2:14) An enemy who comes into the world to "steal and kill and destroy", while Christ counters destruction with "life". (John 10:10) The word of God lives in those who have "overcome the evil one."(1 John 2:14) Though a determined enemy may try, the word of God found in "Scripture cannot be broken".(John 10:35) The Word destroys the work of the devil.
The word of God is skillful to judge the "thoughts and attitudes" of men. It can perform spiritual surgery on the heart, to expose and remove sinful habits from deep inside of the soul. It is also a sharp quick sword that can split the "soul and spirit" asunder - to remove error from understanding, idleness from purpose and hostility from the mind.(Hebrews 4:12) Sin crouches behind the door, with a strong desire to enter one's heart, but it must be mastered.(Genesis 4:7) Through the "very great and precious promises" contained in the word of God, one can be less affected by the moral decay of society, and more apt to participate in His prevailing divine order.(2 Peter 1:4) Through faith in the word of God, one can defend against the "flaming arrows" of the devil.(Ephesians 6:16)
Not only was he their Messiah, but Jesus was forcing unclean spirits out of men right before their very eyes. The Lord was demonstrating how He had power to destroy the work of the devil, but some Pharisees attributed such miracles to the "prince of demons".(Matthew 9:34) If Satan went around tearing down everything he built, how could his "kingdom stand"? Jesus responded to the Pharisees, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined".
The word of God is full of zeal and vital power. Without the Word, the universe would not exist.(John 1:3) He was actively involved in the creative process, as the "craftsman at his side".(Proverbs 8:30) All living things have their existence according to the desire and pleasure of God,(Revelation 4:11) who provides life continuously. And one's destiny is always in his hand. Every living creature has the "breath of life in it."(Genesis 6:17) Every single "breath and everything else" is given by the Creator.(Acts 17:25)
The answer is the "word of God" because one day soon the "work of the devil" will be completely destroyed - not to be seen again on the face of the earth for ten centuries.
