The most intriguing character on Days of Our Lives is the sophisticated and debonair E. J. DiMera played by James Scott There are several reasons I have chosen this character as my favorite: 1) he is male, 2) he is gorgeous, 3) he has an accent, 4) he is multi-dimensional, and 5) he is portrayed by an amazing actor.

First, he is male. Oh, let's face it. Women watch soap operasnot men. We don't watch to see gorgeous actresses; we watch to see gorgeous men. We may empathize with the female characters, but we like to stare at the male characters.

Second, the actor who portrays E. J (James Scott) is yummy. He is tall with chiseled features. He has a head of lovely brown locks (I noticed how lately one particular lock has been falling over his eyes, making him look ever so raffish). Although the producers don't show him in his skivvies very often, when they do, he is nicely proportioned. Oh, and his eyes! They sear into your soulright through the television set.

Third, what makes E. J. even more entrancing is his adorable British accent. How can anyone resist him given the way he speaks? Even when he's cursing or insulting someone, he sounds charming. The female characters on Days claim to be immune to his beautiful voice and exquisite articulation, but I know that even though they don't say so, Maggie and Marlena are drooling over him just as I am.

Fourth, now, here is the contradiction. E. J. was originally brought on the show as a "friend" to Samantha. Then, he decided he wanted her, so he raped her and ultimately when she became pregnant, he forced her to marry him by having his father (the nefarious and notorious Stefano DiMera) threaten her entire family until she agreed to the (to her) repugnant union. Sounds pretty awful, doesn't it? Well, things changed (as they do in soap operas) and this horrible villain became a true gentleman. Fatherhood has tempered him. He is now gentle as a lamb and hopelessly in love with Samantha. In fact, he is so in love with Sammi that he has relinquished her and resigned himself to marrying the scheming Nicole whom he thinks is pregnant with his child (she, of course, is not pregnant, but only faking with a plastic belly).

Finally, E. J. is portrayed by James Scott, an amazing actor. Not only is he capable of realistically conveying the various shades of emotions that the writers have created for this complex character, he has also portrayed a second character on the show. Last year, one plot line involved tracing the Horton and DiMera family trees back several generations to discover a forbidden love affair between E. J.'s grandfather Santo and Sammi's great aunt Colleen. The actors who portray E. J. and Sammi played Santo and Colleen respectively during the flashbacks. Viewer often finds it difficult to forget contemporary character during flashback scenes, but I found Mr. Scott's portrayal of Santo totally believable and endearing. I anxiously awaited every installment of their romance.

So, if you are not a fan of Days of Our Lives, you should be, if for no other reason than to enjoy the wonders of E. J. DiMera as portrayed by James Scott. He is male and gorgeous, with a delightful British accent. He is a multi-dimensional character played by an amazing actor.
