How to decorate a romantic Christmas tree

Many people use themes to decorate their Christmas tree every year. There are lots of Christmas themes that are popular. Some of the options include angels, snowflakes, teddy bears or Santa Claus figures. Why not step outside of the box though and go for a more non-traditional theme for your Christmas tree? Romance is a theme that will be unexpected, beautiful and unique.

What colors come to mind when you think of romance? Red of course! Bead strings in shades of red and dark pink will make a beautiful foundation for your romantic Christmas tree decorations. They may be tricky to find but candle covers for the lights on the tree will add a romantic glow. I would recommend sticking to white Christmas lights on the tree to be reminiscent of candle light even if you don't have the candle covers. If you are able to find them, use them sparsely so that the tree doesn't become overwhelmed with candles. These covers are much safer than the old fashioned way of actually using lit candles on the tree - unless your romance involves meeting a cute fire fighter! Just kidding, of course.

A romantic tree should also have many heart ornaments on it as well. Stick to the colors of red and dark pink for most of the ornaments with punches of other colors thrown in to accent the overall look. Glass ornaments also will look beautiful on the tree and will help bounce around the white lights that you have put on earlier. My favorite type of ornament for the tree has to be shoe ornaments. I think that these would be a beautiful additional to a romantic Christmas tree - at least the high heels and boots.

Other ornaments that will fit into the romance theme are lace ornaments, cherubs, and flowers. There is a huge variety of ornaments available to purchase. Even better would be to make some of your own ornaments using your imagination as the only limit. One idea you could try is to blow up a balloon so that it is round like a Christmas ball. You can them use a scrap of lace and decoupage it with craft glue to the balloon. Allow this to harden overnight. Pop the balloon inside with a pin and use the ends of the lace at the top to tie a ribbon around. This will look gorgeous on your romantic tree.

Not everyone wants a Christmas tree full of ornaments their kids made from school. Perhaps you're a couple without kids or an empty nester or a design diva. A romantic Christmas tree will be sure to surprise and delight all visitors.
