Ten years ago, in December 1998,I got a kitten for Christmas. He was one of three that mom brought home from a neighbor that was breeding her cat. He stole my breath the first time I saw him, he was too cute to describe, with the little burgundy bow around his neck and those big beautiful green eyes staring at me. he came right up to me and climbed up my leg and fell asleep in my lap. At that instance, I fell in love with him and knew that this was the kitten I wanted, i knew that he had chosen me, not the other way around. So my cousins got the other kittens and I took the little baby in my lap.
For the next two weeks, I played with my new kitten, he was my first pet as far as i was concerned, so i took great care of him so that i could have as much time as possible with him. Because of his nature, I thought he was a girl so i called him Princess for his sweet and lovable nature. He never took to the name and I started to wonder why.
Well, I found out why when he was a month old. Mom took him to the vet to get a shot and we had some blood work done, it turned out that Princess was a boy. Now we had to find another name for our little Princess. So, for his gentle and angelic nature, we called him Angel. Over the years, he earned the middle name of Baby. His nicknames were, Baby Boy, Buddha (for his over-sized frame), and Pretty Boy. He responded to all the names and lived up to all of them.
He lived up to his name till the day he died. For the best ten years of my life, I had my little Angel with me at my side. On October 7, 2008, two weeks before his tenth birthday, Angel Baby Torres died of a liver disease caused by his obesity. In my heart, he will always be the little kitten that crawled onto my lap and chose me for his owner.
His death came as a long awaited dreaded outcome to both mom and I. He started getting sick in February and his condition never really got better. There were days that he would return to his normal self, but we both knew that he wouldn't make it to the end of the year. By October, we just prayed that his death would be as painless as possible amd that the good lord would welcome him in as the special cat that he was. Angel was my guardian and I believe that he is now in heaven lookin out for me like he did when he was alive. I will always love my little Angel Baby and his story will live on through me. Always and forever till the end of time.
