Police Officer is the most common field a woman or man thinks of when they think of jobs in the criminal justice system. However there are many more options available to women in this job market.

Parole officer- Meet with inmates and talk about their rehabilitation plans in prison and once released. Talk to victims and their families. Attend hearings, make parole recommendations, and follow up with release plans and inmate counseling.

Caseworker for Inmates- This is a job fulfilled inside the prison. Handle the various issues that come up with the inmates inside the facility. Make punishment recommendations to the proper authorities and restrictions as necessary for their violations while inside. Also act as a contact person between the inmate and the family on the outside. Handle delicate situations that the inmate needs to be made aware of such as illness or death to someone outside.

Functional Unit Managers- The title for this position may vary from each state, the job remains the same. You act as manager over the caseworkers in a housing unit. You may be the one who has to make a judgment call when a dispute arises between an inmate and his caseworker.

Superintendent of Prisons- This position acts as overseer in the running of an institution.

Investigator- This can be handled in the outside world investigating for a private firm. May also involve working for the FBI as a detective. Also there are positions available for this inside prisons. Investigators have many career options available.

FBI- The job opportunities inside this agency are unlimited. Much like the prison system and they are not gender specific. One may find themselves investigating local cases or state cases. There are many jobs within this system. Women will find a wide array of choices when considering this agency for employment. The only thing they do limit is the starting age. At a certain age you are ineligible for opportunities with this agency.

Highway Patrol- Become a trooper and patrol the highways helping local agencies enforce the laws. This is another agency with several options available depending upon your individual interests.
