Understanding what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for

by Carol Natoli

Created on: January 17, 2009

Dr. King stood for peace, tranquility, and family. Nothing was more important for him than these things. I believe being a Baptist, molded him to be the man he was. The Baptists' not only follow the Bible, as other Bible-driven Christians do, but truy live it. I find it amazing that the African American Baptists all dress a certain way for Church on Sunday, only because so many of us, are lax in our appearance. They have such class, and despite the fact that some people "come as they are" for God accepts all men, but they are very proper, as people were, at the Wedding Feast of Cana.

Dr. King stood for family values, and the present president, and upcoming president do, but there was something very different about him. He as never riled up about violence with an enemy. He was not even tempted, during the time, for example, when the enemy bombed him home, which could have killed his family. He kinew that people were ignorant, and he believed and stood for modeled good behavior. He believed in showing people that he lived what he preached.

He believed that someday, the world would be different and everyone would love one another in our country, although his neigbors couldn't imagine such a world. Would people be able to live peacefully? It is something that he dreamed about, as depicted in his famous speech, and he always wanted children to dream, and live their dreams, as President Bush believed. Martin, however, was different. B. Obama, seems more like Martin, and through the visual appearance of his skin, African Americans, look at his election as a surreal experience. People not forget, however, that being that he is half black, he is also half white; it is what we see, that stands out. However, if two races fill the bloodline of one of the greatest men, then why can't various races fill houses next to each other, without allowing housing prices to fall. If the determination of who lives in your neighborhood, affects your home's value, then nothing has really changed. Peopl talk about not being racial or discriminatory, but they are. Hopefully, Obama's election will change all of this. It is amazing that a town like Teaneck, NJ, have always been integrated, and one would wonder why that has worked. Perhaps the thinking goes back to those Black Baptists. All those people want, when they bring their children to school, is for education to be a priority, for they know that it is education, and not race, that alters a person's spot ion this society! Those Christian mothers, in that town, for example, love the way that Dr. King once did, and he is the perfect role model for all of us to emulate!
