I know deer and other animals taken during seasons may be considered ludicrous, unfounded, and unnatural besides perhaps a thousand other adjectives but we still hunt so why? I do enjoy the hunt as I'm sure every successful hunter will have to agree. It's a part of mans make up to hunt a quarry for food and enjoyment in the stalking tracking and the ever lasting waiting for an unsuspecting animal to venture forth from the forest's protective arms. As well everyone knows if numbers aren't kept down to a reasonable limit deer can ruin a year's work in one night in a garden of peas, beans, carrots and yes they even will take a few bites out of green tomatoes. I am my self a nature lover and I take pictures of all kinds of animals and birds and every kind of natural wild occurrence I can.

I still hunt each year for deer; at least I have been but I'm reaching the age of sixty soon so I'm not too sure anymore if I really want to. It has nothing to do with their beauty or the rationality of people saying how cruel it is to shoot these creatures God made for us to enjoy as well as eat. We shouldn't feel it's wrong to hunt deer for food or for sport and in the next breath say we support the war effort . Animals were put on the earth for our care and we were given dominion over them so if we choose to conserve the species by culling the herd then nothing is wrong with that.

For example If abortionists can legally kill unsuspecting human babies how can any one say it's cruelty for hunters to kill animals. Another example is wars so if people think its wrong to kill animals how can they support the war effort? Another example is poverty so if the cold north wind is blowing through the cracks around the windows and doors and the cupboard is empty you will be glad to have some venison, partridge, pheasant, ducks or geese if they are readily available and I gaurantee you won't go out and buy a license either. My dad said what ever we kill we should eat so should only kill what we can eat like some of the examples mentioned.

Another reason for killing animals is for food for our children's survival and I remember going through tough times and the meat we harvested from the wild was food to keep us through the winter in the 1960s and on. Another reason to kill animal for sport may be to take away the wanton attitude some may have towards harming their fellow man. It would be better to kill a deer or goose than a person in war or peaceful times don't you think..That in my opinion is the only good reason to have a gun in our possesion, to hunt animals needing culling out. The sport of hunting is good for us as well because it brings us closer to nature and what the wild animals have to go through each and every day. We can feel the cold wind on our face, down our neck, in our hands with a chill that runs clean to the bone and we feel good about it because fresh air is so good.

Another example could be if Jesus came to the Earth today up to your door, would you receive him into your home with the taint of human blood on your hands or the aroma of a freshly killed moose instead. He would not condemn you for killing food to live from the wild but to kill another human he would surely condemn don't you think. We pay for our responsible game wardens to ensure us the herds are at numbers where it is safe for us to kill for sport and for food so yes it is a good thing to responsibly take animals today at least for now. In the near future we may not be able to eat the flesh of wild animals because of the polluting effects man has heaped on the environment but that is another story.
