Ten ways to improve your psychic abilities

How can you train yourself to recognize and make the most of your psychic abilities? Try these tips to begin developing your psychic and spiritual powers. You may awaken dormant abilities that you didn't know you had, and at the very least, you will become more attuned to your own nature and your place in the world.

1. Recognize and acknowledge your gut feelings. In his book "The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence", Gavin De Becker claims that the gut feeling of fear alerts us to pretend we are dead or to stop breathing or run or to fight. The fight or flight response is more than just adrenaline at work; it is the intuition of what action we need to take in order to protect ourselves, in order to survive. Those fleeting moments of inspiration or observation that seem to come from nowhere do come from somewhere-it is your innate psychic ability kicking in.

2. Practice using your "third eye", the pineal gland. When you read a novel or newspaper clipping, become more aware of the images in your mind's eye. As you practice this conscious use of your imagination, you will discover that the images your brain creates seem to appear inside your forehead right between your eyes. Ancient wisdom recognized the pineal gland as a functioning spiritual center used to help the body establish psychic contact with a higher self, other planes of existence, out of body experiences, and simple imagination. Using visualization practice by concentrating on that area of the forehead between your eyes engages the pineal gland, and ultimately, this allows you to "see" things in your mind that may be happening far away or may happen in the future.

3. Learn to meditate. All you need is a quiet place and a few minutes of time to clear your mind of the clatter of thoughts that your brain sifts through constantly. Meditation can be difficult at first only because we do not practice letting go of the myriad of thoughts and external stimuli that our brains constantly shift around in level of importance. It takes regular practice to quiet the mind and let go of thoughts, so be patient with yourself. The more you practice, the better you get at letting your mind be quiet, and the more open you become to intuitive and/or spiritual messages.

4. Tune in to what you are thinking. When you tune in to your own thoughts, you become aware of what Dr. Phil calls "self-talk"-the messages that we give to ourselves every day. Become aware of what you are saying to yourself about yourself.
