Ways to increase your salary

In today's economy, many people are looking for ways to either make more money or get the money they already make to stretch further. There are many ways to do this. The dollar just isn't going as far as it used to. Gas prices have affected everything from groceries to airline tickets and it all adds up to a tough economic crunch for most families. The following are ten ways that I have found to make ends meet, even in today's financially stressful time.

1-Ask for a raise with your current employer. Go in prepared and ready to negotiate. Have reasons to present that you are worth the extra money to the company and show how they will not be losing anything, but rather, gaining by keeping you on staff and satisfied with your position there. You may even want to request a better benefits package. The price of healthcare is outlandish, so things such as good medical insurance can really save you alot.

2-If there is no pay raise in your future with your current employer, you may want to give careful consideration to looking into other companies. The competitors in your field may be offering a better employment package, especially if the one you are at isn't keeping up with industry standards.

3-If you are working for someone else in a career that can be done as a sole proprietorship, you may want to give a bit of thought to going into business for yourself. You will not be sharing your profits with anyone else, but it may take a while to get going and to build a client base. If this happens, are you prepared? Do you have a few months' salary in savings as a cushion? These are definitely things to consider before making the leap into business for oneself. You may be able to keep your current job, possibly even on a part-time basis, until you get your business off the ground.

4-There are many things that you can do at home in your spare time to increase your monthly earnings. I do online surveys, product testing and freelance writing. You can also do things like data entry or product assembly. You may not make a million, but you can supplement your income nicely.

5-Putting your money in high interest savings accounts will make your dollar earn money with no help from you at all. This is an easy way to increase your income, even if only by a small amount. Investing in savings bonds that will yield a high interest rate for up to thirty years is a safe way to save. You can't cash them in for one year, however, so be sure that you are only purchasing the amount that you can
