It was once said to me that an education will open many doors and let new opportunities arise. This is of course true, especially for single parents. The society that we live in today has made it mandatory to have a double earning household income or one very large one. Married couples have to luxury of having two "okay" jobs to support the family. Single parents need to have a "great" career to be able to support their loved ones by themselves. Education is that key to success.
Take for example, a person with only a high school diploma might be able to make about $30,000 per year after working for a while. Now take that same person and give them a two year degree and that income might be well over $45,000 in just a few short years. This is just one aspect of the rewards received when a quality education is sought. Another factor to consider is that most jobs that require an education, usually have great job security. Simply because there are not as many people trained for that particular job as there was in a job that required less education.
With a higher education, single parents can guarantee that they are able to take the family on vacations due to the fact that they might have more vacation time per year. Most entry level jobs will give two weeks per year working full-time. With an associate degree in the medical field, a person can still get that two weeks per year but only work three to four days per week and still be full-time. Think what you would be able to do with three day weekends every week.
Getting out there to go to school has its own benefits. Learning a new skill is rewarding and instills confidence in people. Think about how many people out there do not have the opportunity to learn a new skill. Once you master what is being taught, confidence grows. Take that confidence out into the workplace and into social life. Meeting new friends becomes easier. Taking the time to put yourself first in education, helps relax people so that they can better take care of the other events in life.
There is no doubt that getting an education, even a small one, can help the circumstances you single parents find themselves. Benefits go beyond just working and cross over into the realm of emotional, mental support, reducing stress and more confidence to talk to people. Single parents that are ready to learn a new skill will soon know the outrageous rewards in regards to finances and personal well-being.
