There are numerous advantages to working at home. One of the most important with high gasoline prices and the poor economy is the savings in gasoline or travel expense. Gasoline has come down somewhat, but is beginning to increase again, so it will continue to be a major expense for workers that have to commute.
Another major advantage is the flexible schedule. Most jobs that can be done from home would allow the schedule to be tailored to the workers preferences. That means that you can take a break when you need, work at night or early in the morning, or work a split schedule. When you have other responsibilities outside the job, you can juggle your schedule to do things at your preferred time.
Working at home is more pleasant. You can set up your workspace in the manner that suits your needs and personality. You can play soft music if it relieves stress, you can dress in any manner that you choose. Not having to dress to s specific dress code can save money from your clothing budget.
You can control the lighting, heat, and any other environmental condition to suit your preferences. This will make for a very satisfying work space and help you to perform at the optimum level.
Working at home is a great advantage, but it carries responsibilities with it. You must be a self-starter. If you cannot set a schedule and meet your commitments, you will fail or be a sub-standard performer. You cannot take advantage of the flexible schedule and not do the required amount of work to be successful. Your income will suffer and your self-esteem will plummet.
For those that have the discipline to work at home, it is the best of situations. Not only is it good for the individual, but it is good for the environment. The reduction in driving results in less pollution. The reduced gasoline consumption slows the demand for oil from foreign countries. Your automobile will not have to be replaced as soon.
The work force reduction in offices results in less demand for heating, lighting and infrastructure at office complexes and reduces the impact on the environment.
With the availability of the internet, journalists can work from home, submit work to the publisher, have payment made electronically into their bank accounts and rarely see their publisher. Novelists can submit manuscripts, photos, and the complete work can be done over the internet and never meet the publisher face to face. We live in an electronic age that has made working at home easy and desirable for many.
If you are working in a job that could be performed at home, consider the advantages and you may soon join the ranks of we that have made the leap.
