How changes in the minimum wage affect the economy

So the minimum wage in Canada is expected once again to be raised by our government. People who make minimum wage will be making more, this is a good thing right? Canadians we are being doped! The average Canadians can't see past his or her bank account and realise the truths behind the minimum wage increases. If Canadians, myself included took a step back they would see the larger picture. As minimum wage goes up more and more Canadians will find themselves in higher tax brackets, more deductions on weekly paychecks and more money owed at years end. The only ones who will see a real increase is our government. Why increase the minimum wage? It's not to help people, its to take more from the middle and lower classes, and generate more revenue.

Were all suffering from low bank balances and high prices, and as we complain we fail to realise that our raises in minimum wage are contributing to this problem not helping. Business owners throughout Canada pay close attention to the bottom line, every time minimum wage increases, Canadians will see and increase in the goods they buy. It's all about keeping a constant percentage going into the bank. More money payed out to employees, must result in higher sale prices. It's simple math to the average business owner.

Lets not forget all the Canadians who make above minimum wage. Who have work long and hard to gain those few extra dollars they receive hourly. As the minimum wage goes up, their salaries are not adjusted accordingly. IE... Someone has worked for a particular company for two years and now makes ten dollars hourly. When minimum wage increases, an individual being hired will make the same amount as the man who had been working there two years. Is this fair? Is this right? I think not! Someone who makes for example two dollars above minimum wage should continue to make atleast two dollars every time the minimum wage increases. We forget that people making above minimum wage, are not necesarily making a lot of money. They are simply making above minimum wage. They too have families, and homes and bills, and with the increases to sale prices on essential items such a food, they too will soon be needing help. For their dollar above minimum wage, will simple become minimum wage.

If Canadians and Canadian officials continue to travel down this road the middle class will cease to exist. Their will only be really rich or really poor. Is that the Canada we want to live in? Look around its already started and we must take action before its too late. I sincerely hope this article reaches the desk of one or more politicians making triple digit salaries, you are supposed to be our voice, perhaps its time you listened to what we have to say!
