Testimonies: How I compare Roman Catholic to the Wicca path

When I first read the title I was intrigued. I never thought much about the similarities of the Roman Catholic to Wicca. I was raised as Roman Catholic. Going through every step as to being one. I went to what I called church school once a week, I was in the choir at church and I was an alter server.

I've mentioned at one point and time why I changed over. Simply because questions weren't being answered and no real help for those in my family who were faithful to both the church and the religion. The church wanted so much money for the ceremony for my great-grandparents funeral. It was ridiculous to ask so much for two people who had gone to that church since it had been built and donated their own money to it ever since.

It was one of the last straws for me. Ever since I had started studying Wicca six years ago, I've been happier then ever. My boyfriend who is Pagan was one of the best things to happen to me when I changed over and it had only gotten better. I've thought about this before and a similar topic had came up between my friends and I and now I've given it much deeper thought about it.

Just like in Wicca, Roman Catholics use candles to pray to a saint or what in Wicca it would be a deity. The whole ceremony with communion I noticed back when I was an alter server that the wine was in a chalice, bells ring during the ceremony and the bread and wine is given to those who came. That we all wore special clothing to do the ceremony in. That during certain holidays is a very special ceremony is done to celebrate that holiday and it's purpose, very much when in Wicca when certain holidays are celebrated in ceremony in a more extravagant way. I think about it even now and can see the similarities to communion and ceremonies in a Roman Catholic church compared to a Wiccan ritual.

If you think about it more, the prayers they do in a church is like spells in a certain way. Both are asking for help whether its for yourself or for someone else. Stories, they both have stories that teaches us lessons in basically how to be a good person. As for the rules they both have the same rule. " To Harm None." The only true difference is the Roman Catholic is more specific and more restricting at to with Wicca, cause no harm.

Very much with the three-fold one which I love. I've always tried to treat people the way that I would want to be treated and that if someone causes pain to another person and I see it. I will step in and help that person and hope that person will be blessed for the rest of the day and as for the one that was causing the harm that when it catches up to them that maybe they will learn from it and be a better person from it.

As to what I just described that also seems to be the way with the Roman Catholics. That when something bad happens to someone that good fortune or a helping hand will come and help them and as those who cause harm will get their share of misfortune.

Even so if I had to choose between staying Catholic and studying Wicca again I'd still choose to study Wicca. With how everything with the church is going, I can't imagine going back to being Catholic, not when I'm happy with being Wicca. So that is my comparison to Roman Catholic and Wicca, just another way of comparing them.
