Your education degree can still be very important to you, even once you decide that you would like to find something outside the educational area. Why? Because the education degree has offered you many classes in writing, speaking, goal setting courses for educational purposes, and an ability to grade and evaluate others. Many of these courses are very important in the following career areas: Marketing, selling, writing, management, social work, training others in business, or many other jobs. If you can teach, or you trained to be a teacher, even if you taught only a few years, or even months, these valuable skill are easily transferred to many other careers and jobs.
I have talked with many teachers during my careers whicle in doing seminars, writing and helping people make career choices in their lives. Some Teachers feel that changing careers is too difficult, and often they say,"All I know is education, I feel I would be lost trying a new career." My answer is always the same, "As a teacher you have very special skills to bring into the working world, the most important is the ability to work with people which is an important management skill, also you possess talking and public speaking skills which are always in demand in business and selling, and you know how to develop daily and weekly lessons plans to motivate and inspire you students, and you have the physical stamina to teach on your feet, for 7-9 hours a day, this will help you in any career or job today.
Consider any job or career which you will be working closely with people such as selling or marketing, also consider helping others people choose careers based on their educational background and interests, if you have an interest in computers, consider becoming a network system and data communications analyst, which tests, designs, and evaluates systems, and intranets, this is the top career for recent college graduates, with 35,086 opening yearly and the beginning salary starts at 40K yearly.
Sometimes teachers, or teacher trained people, find the new job or career, was not as hard as they expected, because teachers have a good reputation of learning the new job or career fast, working well with new people and customers, and they build their reputation in the new job. You can do the same. Perhaps later in your career, you will feel so confident with your new career, you will go back to teaching others at a community college, or other schools, and teach about your exciting career field, and help others succeed in life.
Summary. This is what I did in my career, I majored in Business Education, after doing my student teaching at a high school, I decided I wanted to work in business using my business skills. I found that I loved business, I worked in the accounting field, and after l0 years took a teaching job at a community college teaching accounting and other business subjects, I enjoyed it fully. Then I combined my business skills, with my teaching skills, into more writing which is really teaching, and I spend 20 years teaching, and 20 years in accounting and finance. I had best of two worlds, so can you.
