Sport Activities for Homeschooled Families
Sports activities should always be included in a homeschooled family's curriculum.
The involvement of homeschooled children in sports activities is an excellent way to develop discipline, socialize them, and provide them with an outlet for their energy as well as health and wellness benefits.
Sports activities are also a great way to teach homeschooled children about setting goals, cooperation among their peers, and to respect others. Homeschooled children participating in sports activates will also learn to develop a good work ethic, team building skills, how to achieve success and of course have fun.
Physical activity in general will help your children be able to focus when it's time to do other home school scholastic activities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends "Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day."
CDC provides guidelines for physical activities for children and adolescents as well as adults. They define physical activities to be a combination of three activities; aerobic activity, muscle strengthening and bone strengthening. The CDC recommends that each of these activities be included in the child's routine at least 3 day per week.
Parents also need physical activity each day, although not as much. Therefore, you can select sports activities that you can participate as a family, as well as activities the children want to try on their own.
There are so many sports activities to choose from, it is easy to find programs that suit the interest of the homeschooled family and their daily requirements. Introducing new activities along with favorites is a great way to create new interests.
Many organizations such as the YMCA have different sports activates for children and parents of all ages all throughout the day. Check with the local township as well to find out what sports activities are offered in your area.
Sports activities that could be included in a homeschooled family's program are, but are not limited to:
Swimming
Swimming is excellent form of exercise and an extremely important life skill. Swimming builds up muscle strength, endurance, improves the body's circulation and assists with proper breathing.
Swimming as a sports activity for homeschooled children will teach them important life skills such as setting goals. There are many different levels of swimming lessons, from beginners to those training to become instructors and lifeguards.
