With the passing of new legislation, everyone is now entitled to a free credit report once per year from each of the three reporting agencies TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. You can request a free report by going to each of these provider's websites. On the website, find the free report link, or simply request a report and there will be a box to check stating that this is your yearly free report.
Since the reports from all three agencies will be very similar, you can stagger your report inquiries if you want to check your report every 4 months. (For example, request a TransUnion report in January, an Equifax report in May, an Experian report in September, and then back to TransUnion next January). This keeps you up-to-date on your credit year-round.
A final word of caution each agency will attempt to sell you additional services, such as a 3-in-1 report, or a credit score in addition to your free report. These are completely optional, and you are never obligated to purchase anything to see your free credit report.
