How to train a Pomeranian puppy

Pomeranians are of special interest to me being that I grew up with about 200 of them. You heard me correct. My mother and father breed and sell Pomeranian puppies for a living. We had three for housepets that were absolutely amazing. These puppies are trained faster than any other breed I know. Please keep in mind I am not bashing other breeds due to the fact this is the kind my family sells. All jokes aside, after leaving home to pursue my life, I decided to to try various types of puppies because, well, I was sick of the ones that was raised up beside me.

Huge mistake! I tried my hardest on housebreaking them, even learning to catch a ball. No luck at all. Soon I discovered myself missing the Pomeranians.

To be perfectly honest, it doesn't take much to train them. With that being said, please note that I'm not going to give you a big list of what to do's. There is only three simple rules to follow in training this breed.

1. Be consistent.

2. Don't feed them table scraps.

3. Provide them with lots of love and toys.

I recommend that you start housebreaking no later than seven weeks of age. Do not let them wander around your yard alone, and actually I don't even recommend a leash. The best effective way with ours was to place a small circle fence in a special place in your back yard. Every time you must put the puppy in the fence. Don't play with the pup at this time because you must drill it in their heads that this is business time. Our puppies was usually housebroken in less than three months.

I want to briefly explain number two stated above. Many people laugh at this one, disregarding advice on tablescraps. This is a huge mistake. Especially with this breed any kind of pork, chocolate, or anything leads to heart disease. We had to learn this the hard way. Our first Pomeranian we ever owned died of an enlarged heart caused from Pork. The veterinarian's warnings on these foods are there for a purpose. Your not keeping tablescraps from your dog to be mean, your doing it because you love them and desire them to live a long, healthy life.

I recommend Hill's Science Diet (small bites) for your puppy. This brand helps your puppy's digestive system and provides important nutrients your puppy needs. You can locate this brand at a local veterinarian's office, or pet store.

The most important rule to remember is to give your puppy unconditional love. Don't use harsh or scolding words. This will cause them to back away from you instead of trusting you. You need their trust but keep in mind that they need your as well.
