A guide to buying flower seeds online

With the high cost of printing, many seed companies have begun charging for their catalogs. Most of us really don't want to pay just to see what there is available. Thankfully, just about every company out there maintains a website, where we can browse to our heart's content for free. There are some really great sites out there offering flower seeds at unbelievably low prices.

Surprisingly, the greatest bargains are available on eBay. Home gardeners who save their flower seeds are selling them on this auction site at incredibly low prices. The advantage with eBay is that the seeds have usually received top notch care from the growers themselves and are extremely fresh. Another plus is that these sellers usually provide a much larger quantity of seed than commercial sellers. Some truly unusual and rare varieties can be found here.

Another good source for low priced flower seeds is homeharvestseeds.com. They have quite a variety and extremely low prices. The website is set up a little strangely, but it is a treasure trove for gardeners. In addition to all of the seeds, they also offer tips on starting them as well. Most seed packets are priced just over one dollar.

Don't overlook the large, well known companies when searching online. In addition to their regular stock, they often have items on sale at a lower price. For example, Park Seed has a dollar seed sale section, where the prices are actually even lower. Lots of the seed packets are priced as low as 74 cents. When just looking for something new, sale pages can be a good place to look.

The web is also a great place to look for heirloom or cottage garden flower seeds. Sites like seymourseedusa.com and selectseeds.com are wonderful. Rareseeds.com has varieties from 70 different countries and they carry varieties that are not often available in stores. In fact, all of these have varieties that are truly antique and haven't been widely available for many years. For organic, untreated seeds, seedsofchange.com is a wonderful company. Their website is interesting and informative as well.

Whether you are looking for strange and unusual or easy to grow seeds you will be able to find it on the internet. Just type in flower seeds on Google and see what comes up. Stick to the larger well known companies or give one of the small specialty sites a try. What better way could there be to spend a winter day than shopping for flower seeds?
