Ashnee

We're going on for miles now,
This Greyhound bus from Adelaide,
I fidget in my lonely seat
My tourist feast delayed.

I hadn't really counted,
that things would take so long
The mighty desert rolling by
Awaits Uluru's song.

She sits there with her partner
They know each other so
He blond and quite good looking
She dusky, fresh and Oh!

You caught me fantasising
'Bout someone else's squeeze

The mind it tends to wander
On journeys such as these.

At last, at last it's over
we judder to a halt
The evening hues of Ayers Rock
The sandstone mass we sought

And now, needs must to climb it
They helpfully explain
There is a handy guide-rail
So you don't join the slain

It's very steep and very high
As we begin our climb
passing by some gravestones
that mark some others' time.

The rope goes up to "Chicken Rock"
they cheerily entreat
If you can't make it up that far
Uluru has you beat.

I really don't like heights you know,
And neither seems does she
I find her on her own now
To my own inner glee

Ashnee and I decide it's best
To turn and flee away
There's more to life than some old rock
When we can go to play

So back to Alice Springs it was
With me now by her side
The partner was her cousin
Along just for the ride.

That night we three played Scrabble
My plans for her unknown
He lost and left but she stayed on
So there we lay, alone.

A goodbye kiss which lingered long
A passion unsuspected
Our bodies' youthful wanton needs
No longer we neglected

"Don't tell my cousin if you please"
She said with parting twirl
"He really has not one idea,
I'm such a naughty girl!".
