Album reviews: Feels Like Home, by Norah Jones

"Feels Like Home"(2004), Norah Jones' sophmore effort is nothing less than euphoric. Push play. It is instantly hypnotizing. It made hearthache. Its poignancy, grace, essence and melodic tranquil beats make a body of work that is nothing less than phenomenal. Track one, "Sunrise" sounds like a sunrise. It is so refresing. It digs deep into the dark crevices of your being extracting all negativity, injecting nothing less than pure love. Who would have thought this young daughter of an indian bassist would be able to release a following to (the multi-Grammy awarded album),"Don't Know Why" that is even more precious and timeless.

The lyrics take you home. Its one tranquil expression of emotion after another. Track two "What am I to you?" is so beautiful. She asks, "What am I to you?/Tell me darling true/To me you are the sea/Vast as you can be/And deep the shade of blue/When you're feeling low/To whom else do you go?/See I cry if you hurt...I'd give you my last shirt/Because I love you..." She loves so pure in her work. Her songs are so innocent and clandestine. She touches hearts through her craft.
"Feels like home" also transfixes your mind. You can put it on repeat in your cd player and sleep for days. Your dreams would be soundtracked by melodies so heavenly, you would not ever want to get out of bed.

Truly, greatness becomes her. Norah is good with words. Track 3, "Those Sweet Words" is a lullaby for all ages. Listeners around the world will not be able to resist curling up in a warm blanket(or lap) while listening to this one. She said, "Come on in/Did you have a hard time sleeping/'Cause a heavy moon was keeping you awake /And all I know is I'm just glad to see you again /See my love/Like a lost balloon/Rising up through the afternoon /And then you appear." To be honest, Norah's voice is so beautiful, she could sing about a hamburger and still rock. It seems she can take any lyrics and make them smooth like butter. "Feels like Home" is not an abum, it is a place. It takes you there:permanent "chill" mode.

It is also admirable the way, in "Feels like home", she was faithful to the tone of her first album. This will be the key to her continued success. Is it folk music? Is is Jazz? Is it Pop? Soul? Who knows? But one thing is for sure, she is not doing this to be famous. Fame is beneath her. She is an artist with unmeasurable value. She should be crowned the Queen of Melody.
