Novel excerpts: Politics

by Zarrah O'Curren

Created on: January 15, 2009

A quick explanation: I need someone to decide if this is something people would be happy to read or if I should just chuck it! Please rate my novel excerpt. It is non-fiction satire but it has to do with Politics so I just didn't know where to put it. Please read and I hope you enjoy. Its called "Random Musings of a conservative Mormon"

Day 1: January 12, 2009

Before I begin I have a confession to make. I am a conservative Mormon. Oh you probably already got that from the title of this book and you probably where curious so you decided to take a look inside. Wait! Don't close the book! You will make me sad. I don't like being sad. I know a lot of people in this world who are sad and even depressed and that is never fun. Oh I guess I am not very funny but I hope you will read my book.

Okay lets start that one again. Yes I am a conservative Mormon! I believe in that weird kooky ideology and I will someday wear those underwear that people sometime describe as "magical" (really you think thats a insult? Mark Twain came up with better). Please believe me when I say that a lot of what I am writing is written in good humor and I mean no offense. For those sober, don't make fun of my religion Mormons I have a secret "We need to laugh at ourselves sometimes."Oh this is probably going to be interpreted so wrong! I will do a political thing to do and reword what I just said. What I meant was that I am a Mormon, its not going to change. I believe in the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Am I a convert? Yes and I continue to be every day. When did I convert? The day I was baptized. I believe I was eight.

So It is the Year 2009. New Year, New President! I shudder at why the American people elected Barack Obama. I don't trust him. Okay so now you are seeing my conservative side. Thats good. If your liberal I suggest you put the book down unless you think you can stomach some of this. It is my good subjective conservative opinion that America has elected Barack Obama on the color of his skin and not the content of his character. Oh wait before you start screaming racist will you hear me out?! Barack Obama spent twenty years in the presence of some very shady company. He started his political career in a terrorists house and then spent twenty years in a church that (though legitimately angry at racism) blamed America for an "original sin" of slavery. Something that no matter what America does we won't be forgiven for by some sectors of society. I don't believe in original sin so its natural for me to wonder why he is mad. I wonder didn't the Republican party under the direction of Lincoln push through the first Civil rights act in 1836? What about the emancipation proclamation? That was pushed by a Republican Congress and Republican president too. Or did some people forget their history class?

Was this election historic? Absolutely. Does that mean I have to like the guy? Absolutely not! Will I pray for him? Yes.

Well I guess its time for bed. I might just continue my rant tomorrow.
