Most people interested in loosing weight have heard of meal substitutes or shakes. Weight loss shakes have been around a long time and come in many flavors. But before someone tries them out, they should be aware of the pros and cons of this weight loss option.
For disciplined people, this method could work. A shake for breakfast, a sensible lunch, and a shake for dinner. Throw in some fruit as a snack and you are good to go. It doesn't take much thought and they are available in powered form or in pre-made cans. Add in a little yoga and in two months you could loose up to ten pounds.
If you aren't interested in loosing weight but maintaining your weight, this could also be a useful tool. A shake for breakfast to get your metabolism going and a yogurt or piece of fruit at 10am, and then a sensible lunch and dinner and you won't have much to worry about. If you have a party coming up, maybe replace a few lunches or dinners during the days prior and then you can eat what you like at the party.
However, anyone who needs to loose a serious amount of weight should either expect to be drinking weight loss shakes for a long time and should consult their doctor, especially if they experience any negative side effects. Make sure that the meal substitute shakes contain the nutrients that you needthey need to nourish as well as fill you up; remember, the goal is healthy weight loss. If you aren't eating many meats or carbs, you will need to make sure the shakes you buy have the protein and carbs that you need. Furthermore, you should still be eating fruits and vegetables while on this diet, but if you don't, make sure the shakes contain all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. If they don't, you could become more susceptible to colds and other illnesses. Also, keep in mind that weight loss shakes are artificially maderead the label to see if there are any ingredients that you would like to avoid, such as aspartame.
Shake drinkers should also be aware of their overall health during this time to make sure that this particular diet isn't having a negative impact on your health. Has there been an impact on your digestive system? Do you feel weak? Are you feeling shaky? Looking pale? Are you loosing more weight than you should? These are just a few symptoms you should be aware of in case you need to stop this diet and maybe even talk to your doctor.
Overall, weight loss shakes can be part of a healthy diet, if used correctly.
