Fifty Plus in Boston

What do you do if you are 50 and new to Boston? Boston is a young person's city. Each Fall, thousands of students flood into "the Hub" as Boston is called, from all over the globe to attend some of the best colleges and universities in the world. So, many of the "hangouts" cater to the late teen and 20 something set. But there are things to do for the 50 Plus set, too.

How to Find People To Hang Out With in Boston for 50 Plus People

Bostonians endure a four season climate that can be harsh and difficult to navigate. That's no excuse, but it does explain the lack of sunshiney smiles from people you may meet on the street. The reverse side of the coin is that once you get to know a local, he or she will be a friend for life. Bostonians love to say that they are not "superficial"- like people in California- and they take the time to get to know you. So, be patient.

Boston has a wide variety of events and activities, from pro sports teams, outdoor recreation, museums, art galleries, theatre, music and culture. Find a group or activity that you enjoy and "hang out" with that group. Check local listings in the Boston Globe and Boston Phoenix newspapers for events and organizations. The Thursday Boston Globe has a supplement with listings for everythign from concertts, to plays and sporting activities. The Arts and Entertainment section of the daily Globe also has reviews and listings.
