Why, of course "hate speech" should be tolerated! The idea that speech can be labeled as "hate speech" is itself a reflection of human toleration. Hatred by definition, is extreme disagreement about something. A person or country can no more successfully ban speech that express hatred than one can ban people from having opinions. When a person express hatred, such is an indication of that person's knowledge or understanding of another person's way of living or point of view and sometimes such opinions lead to hatred. Additionally, keep in mind, what a person says is an indication of the "quality of their thinking". However, as a general rule during of our daily conversations we may have many occasions to disagree with someone. Yet it is rare that such conversations result in hatred.

While conversing with someone we may find such a conversation disturbing. Yet by using good manners, personal control and courtesy we are not normally driven to tell the person that we hate them or to "shut up"! And likely you would not want to be the one that is told to shut up"! Consider that when a person is prevented from expressing an opinion, hatred or not , they are being told to "shut up". Mandating speech as "hate speech" is tell those those with whom we disagree to "shut up"!

If we say, to our children, "shut up"... there may be acceptable reasons for wanting them to do so. However, if we say "shut up" to our mates or other adults such may cause farther undesirable conversations both in the present and the future or cause extended conversations as well as even an argument. On the other hand when a government legislates "shut up" laws, now we have the makings of a suppressive government. Dictatorial policies, laws, are intrusive "shut up" mandates and by definition diminish individual freedom such are never acceptable for people that say they love " freedom of speech".

When people become intolerant of the words that others may use to reflect their views, it is not a test of the individual that is in question but the sanity of the person or government that wishes to suggest their views are "unacceptable". When such views become laws this should be a warning against having too much trust in governmental ethics. This warning if not heeded, will kill not only the hopes of many but can lead to war and death. Restriction on freedom to speech will ,without fail, eventually result in the suffering for one important person, you!
