Why oh why do people wait until the baby is born to know it's sex? I just cannot believe that anyone would want to do this. I mean don't you get tired of calling your baby an it? I couldn't wait to name the little baby that was growing inside me. My husband and I were so excited to know our baby's sex. We waited for that day much like a child waits for Christmas. And once you know the sex, you can really begin to plan for the birth of your child as most baby items are either pink or blue.

I can see how it must be an amazing surprise when the baby arrives to hear the doctor inform you of your child's sex. However, I would much rather hear the doctor say, "Congratulations, so and so is finally here!" I loved being able to give my baby bump a name. I talked to my little baby girl constantly and got her use to hearing her name. I definately would not want to wait until after she was born to name her. I think I would be too exhausted at that point to do anything. My husband and I were quite prepared for our little girl. We even had stationary with her name on it. I love that we knew we were having and a girl and were able to name her while she was still in my belly.

I personally would not want all yellow clothes and neutral colored baby gifts. I love the pink and the blue. But, you can't buy pink or blue items if you don't know what you are having. Instead, you have to buy neutral colors. When you register for baby items, you have to pick and choose baby items that are boy/girl friendly. For me, this is too much of a hassle. I mean think about everything that you have to do already. And now you can't even just check off all boy stuff or all girl stuff, instead you have to pick and choose neutral baby items. Of course you can always buy both and pink and blue items but then you are either stuck with the boy stuff if it's a girl or stuck with the girl stuff it's a boy and either will be forced to return those items or lose the money. As for returning, no mom with a newborn has the energy to do such a thing. So chances are you will lose the money. Is it worth it? I don't think so. I'd rather be able to know for sure and buy what I have to buy accordingly and not have to guess or make do by being neutral.

When it comes to having a baby, it's important to plan for it. If you don't know what you are having, then how can you plan? There is so much to buy for the baby. I personally want to buy blue or pink and not yellow. And then there is the issue of a name. Do you want to refer to your baby as an it for the rest of your pregnancy? Or would you rather have your baby named and be able to talk to them through your belly and get them used to hearing their name? It might sound like a great surprise but it brings even more pressure to new moms and dads. Once the baby is born, you get three days in the hospital. I know I would rather spend them recovering and not have to focus my energy on naming my baby and realizing I have alot of things to buy based on my baby's sex. It's just such a wonderful feeling to be able to know who is growing in your belly and to be able to plan specifically for them.
