Circumcision according to Judaism

Circumcision is the sign of the covenant between the Jewish People and God. (Gen 17:11)

This doesn't mean that every Jew who is circumcised is automatically "one of God's chosen people."

To be one of God's chosen people one's heart must also be circumcised. (Deut 10:15)

This would agree with the prophets who constantly emphasize that it's not enough to be circumcised physically, one must be circumcised spiritually, which means that one must also generally do good to his fellow man and follow the laws of God.

The Apostle Paul adds that: even if one isn't circumcised yet keeps God's commandments he is considered to have a circumcised heart and is therefore one of God's "chosen people.

Judaism wouldn't reject that idea because even though it would not conform to the practice of Abraham in Genesis it would satisfy the requirements of Deuteronomy for being one of the chosen people.

It would be like being a member of a club and not having a club blazer or insignia but following all the club rules.

It's making a distinction between observing a law whose purpose is to keep the unity of the Jews as a nation and keeping a law which makes us the people of God.

Physical circumcision is a law whose purpose is to make one a member of the Jewish Nation. Spiritual circumcision is a law which makes one a member of the chosen people of God.

The purpose of the continued existence of the Jewish people as a nation is to keep alive the belief in the one God until the time when other nations of the world will also choose to be the chosen nation by believing in the one universal God..

You don't have to be Jewish to believe in one God. In fact the objective of the Bible is that all mankind should believe in one God.

The purpose of the Bible is to teach all mankind, not only the Jews, who is God and what He wants of us.

Judaism sees God as God of the entire universe. All men are welcome and show their acceptance by laws like circumcision of the heart, laws of Sabbath and the study of His word which the Jews believe is the Torah, the Prophets (Neviim) and the Writings (Cetuvim). (T.N.C. pronounced TANACH).
