Taking kids skiing can be the most wonderful experience of a lifetime, or it can be nightmare you can't wake up from. Depending on the ages of the children and how much skiing gear you will be taking, and what skiing trails you will be partaking of, will depend on what kind of skiing experience you will have.
Here are ten trail- tested tips to help you have a great skiing experience with the kids.
1. To get the kids used to the snow, go tubing first. This way they can get used to the atmosphere and the fast movement.
2 For parents of babies or very young children, split a lift pass so that one parent can hang out with the baby while the other skis. Amuse the baby by letting her play in the snow.
3. Bring non-perishable snacks such as protein bars or animal crackers are great foods to re-energize everyone.
4. Take frequent breaks with the kids so that they can rest. They get tired fast!
5. Start the kids out slowly with skiing. Start on a really easy, small slope so that they can get a little experience on skis.
6. Bring along walkie- talkies to keep in touch with your family. This works great for two parents with small kids that will be separated. And it works great to keep tabs on older children and teenagers.
7. Take the baby or small child that can't ski yet, on a bunny slope. Ski very slowly while holding her, or have her wear her own skis and just talk her into it, while skiing very slowly.
8. Get condo access with ski in and ski out access. This means you will have the slopes at your doorstep, which is great when the kids have to go to the bathroom.
9. Stay at a ski resort that has a pool, so the kids can warm up while swimming.
10 .Allow your older kids and teenagers to go on the fastest slope they desire. They can brag to their friends about their" extreme skiing experience."
Start skiing with your kids while they are very young. This will give them a chance to grow up skiing and they will learn to not be afraid. Bring plenty of snacks for everyone and take frequent breaks. Have fun out there!
