is the temptation to reel off buzzwords in an attempt to impress. If you are not careful, it can sound very shallow, and a good interviewer will see through you right away.
Even though you might, in fact, be using Wendy S. Enelow's words and phrases, you have to make them yours, as well. Think about and practise ways to paraphrase and expand on each industry-specific term you use - this will help to make it come from you in a way that convinces.
Some of the phrases in the book seem rather awkward; "I've found these individuals can be your ally..." sounds wrong to me, for example. The lesson here is that if something sounds right, use it - but if it doesn't, stop and check. Make sure the grammar is correct. Run it past a person who you know is good with words, to get a second opinion.
The only other negative thing I'll say here is that these are challenging times, work-wise - I'm writing this at the start of 2009, at a time when the global economy doesn't appear to be in very good shape at all. Chances are that when you appear for your job interview, you will be up against plenty of others who are superbly qualified, experienced and extremely hungry for work. It's a buyer's market out there, at the moment.
So getting your words right will not guarantee that you pass the interview, in actual fact. But doing so will make sure that your vocabulary is not the reason you fail.
The bottom line is this: KeyWords to Nail Your Job Interview, by Wendy S. Enelow, is a fine resource and a good toolbox that you would do well to plunder, when your next job interview looms. It will inspire you to go over your resume, your cover letters and your interview style with critical eyes and ears, and will help you to maximise your chances of winning that job.
