In a world where appearance gets the highest priority, it's quite refreshing to see a game that proudly presents very simple graphics. It's quite similar with Bike or Die, a game for iPhone/iPod Touch, with the exception that this is a PC game.
The download process goes pretty smoothly, thanks to the smallish 10MB file size. The game also installs quickly and without any hassle. The interface is pretty straightforward, without any confusing menu. The menu seems to be derived from the old Windows 95's games.
There's no learning curve to master the control. You can just press the directional keys in the keyboard, coupled with space bar to give your "car" a boost. At first, the puzzle is very easy, and it's getting harder as always in puzzle games. The graphics are simplistic at best, depicting the environments in the style of kids' drawing. There is no 3D or clever 2D animation here. The simple graphics itself may not appeal to everyone, but the problem is that lots of modern "lightweight" games have much better and colorful graphics. It's not necessarily 3D, but at least attractive enough to keep us playing.
The gameplay itself is pretty standard, since there's nothing new. You navigate the car or rocket to the designated flags or rings as fast as you can. Along the way, you'll find obstacles that require some working around. Levels are unlocked after you completed each challenge within a short period of time. Unfortunately, the fun starts and ends here. You just go over and over with that concept, adding more obstacles which after several tries will prove too easy for anyone. The trial version only provides up to 10 levels or challenges, and the full version has 25 challenges.
The real challenge here is mastering the controls, which is very touchy. You'll have a harder time mastering the controls than looking at the sub-standard graphics. But that's not the worst. Springworld Challenge has the most uninspiring music of all time, you're advised to turn it off from the start.
If you're just looking for fun and entertainment, there are better games out there. However if you just looking for something to kill your time, you can just play this game. But beware, you've been warned.
