Every year in late winter people flock from all over the northern climates and head south to paradise as advertised in those little fold-ups that you find in airport terminals. Irving and Martha from Kennebunk
Maine were no exception. The idea had come upon Irving when he met his grandchildren at the Portland Maine International Jetport. It is said that the airport included "international" into its name after Jeremiah Perkins flew his Cessna up to Prince Edward's Island to drop off a UPS package, therefore earning the airport international flight status. How Jetport got included in the name, no one has a clue.
While Irving was waiting at the airport he had sifted through a rack of travel brochures finally landing upon Disneyworld. The pictures fascinated Irving and he determined that he and Martha needed to visit it in person. It looked like an amazing zoo. He could not imagine such a place that would allow large rodents to walk unattended amongst small children, let alone hug them and have pictures taken. The pest control experts must use some strict discipline to keep those rats in check he surmised. This had to be seen in person!
Irving had worked for 35 years at the mill and for all of those years his vacations had consisted of backyard barbecues and fishing trips up to Moosehead Lake. It was time for a change. It was time for him and Martha to kick up their heels and live a little. Using the spare time before the flight with his grandchildren arrived, Irving went up to the ticket counter to see what he could do. Sauntering up in his knee high mud boots, denim overalls, tan button t-shirt and LL Bean fishing cap that was purchased long before they became fashionable, he waited in line for his turn.
The young girl behind the counter smiled and asked what she could do. Irving stated plainly while tossing the brochure onto the counter "I would like to purchase two tickets to Disneyworld." The girl asked if Irving had any children or grandchildren. To which he replied "ayuh, that's pretty good that you would know that, they should be here in just a bit." Confused the girl asks if they are all heading down to Disneyworld together. Irving scratches his head and shakes it saying "nope.. just coming over for Christmas" The girl realizing that she assumed wrong restates her question. "So you only need two?... Tickets to Disneyworld?" "Ayuh, that's what I want." Says Irving, wondering what the fuss about his grandkids was all about. The girl smiles and sells him a set
