Testimonies: How my cats got their names

I have two very gorgeous and loving cats, who both came to live with us after spending time in the wild. The first is our often moody, and loving when she wants to be, Burmese. She spends most of her time sleeping or cuddling up to whomever she can (that is as long as you don't move when she is comfortable).

This is her story..... I went to pick my fiance up from work one evening and he informed me that in the parking lot, underneath a Dodge Durango parked there was a skinny little cat. They had managed to get her to come out from under the vehicle for a few minutes but then would retreat back to the safety of being hidden beneath the truck. He walked up toward the truck and called the cat with a "here kitty" and out came this little nearly calico looking gray cat. She couldn't be very old at all, maybe just over a year or so. She made her way to the guard shack and rubbed up against his leg and tried to go into the guard shack. He managed to keep her out and I made my way to sit on the stoop just outside. She made her way over to me and nudged up against my leg. I looked at my fiance and asked him if we should take her home for the night because it was supposed to get very cold. He agreed that we should and I opened the car door to see if she would climb in on her own. I wasn't sure about picking her up just yet. As I thought, she climbed right in. She made her way to the passenger seat of the car and curled up like she was meant to be there. My fiance's shift ended and we started home with this precious little cat curled up on his lap. We discussed whether or not we would keep her if no one claimed her, and decided that we would. We then discussed appropriate names for this little gray mass of fur.

The little mass of gray fur, had found her way 26 miles from Palo Alto, Pennsylvania to Pine Grove, Pennsylvania in the undercarriage of that very Dodge Durango that she used as her safe place. We decided to call her Durango so we would never forget where she had come from.

The second of our interesting pair of feline companions is a gray American Domestic. She also was a stray that was found by a friend of ours. He called me one night and asked if we wanted a second cat. I wasn't so sure about this as we were still trying to get used to having the one cat around, but decided we would see what happened if we brought this one home. Our friend said he felt that she belonged with us because she looked like she could be Durango's little sister.

We talked about names for her also and because she is very playful, my fiance wanted to call her Nermal after Garfield's gray tabby friend in the cartoons who always wanted to play while Garfield just wanted to sleep and eat lasange. We eventually decided on Sissy. This name came from the original Durango's little sister.

I love my two kitties with their different personalities, and their little quirks.
