This is the year of hope and possibility. The year we put into action all those things we have been meaning to do. Every year we make resolutions on New Years Eve only to forget them by February. Only this year is different. This year people are seeing hope and feeling inspired to take control of their lives. This year we are learning to take the time truly experience life. We are learning that there is no day like today, and that hard work and sacrifice make all things are possible.
Many of us are beginning to realize that today is the day to accomplish our dreams. Part of living life to its fullest is doing what you enjoy, living your dreams, and working toward goals. I believe that 2009 is not only the year of change, but also the year of the bucket list. A bucket list is a list of life goals one wants to complete in this life. This list includes dreams, desires, and aspirations, which will add joy to your life. Today is the day to write down your goals. Now is the time to contemplate what it is that you rtruly desire.
There are no rules. This is your list. Be as vague or specific as you wish. However, know that the more specific you are the more likely you are to accomplish your goal. I suggest that you include a wide variety of goals, big and small, sensible and crazy. A bucket list is a wonderful tool for pushing yourself to put your dreams into action. Do not be afraid of taking chances. You only get to live once.
Keep in mind that a bucket list is not a finite thing. Your list can evolve as you journey through this life. Additions are not only allowed but strongly encouraged. Some goals will be easy to think of, while other may require deep soul searching and contemplation.
Making the list is the easy part. The challenge part is taking those dreams and transforming them into reality. By writing your goals and wishes down you have completed the first step. Now, keep your list nearby so you can be constantly reminded of just what you are working towards. Do not leave bigger goals to "someday". Someday is too vague. Some say the difference between a dream and a goal is a timeline. Create a time line to achieve your highest aspirations. Include mini goals that will help you stay on track and bring you closer to your life goal. You may consider also trating yourself to inexpensive rewards for accomplishing each mini-goal. This will reinforce your hard work and keep you moving on the right track.
No matter what your goals are there is no greater feeling than crossing an item off your list and exclaiming, "I did it!"
