"Be home before dark, and stay out of the woods." Prince Robert barely heard the lingering words of his mother as he passed the cast-iron gates while his leather hard-heeled shoes clattered heavily over the wooden drawbridge. Not stopping to reply to his mother's request, Prince Robert darted toward the open field with his bow in hand and his quiver strapped to his shoulder.

Prince Robert, as his name suggests, was a prince by birth. Born of King Joshua and Queen Marana, Prince Robert was all of three foot and a few odd inches tall, depending on his choice of shoes for the day. Being seven years old, Prince Robert loved playing outside in the back field.

He never really had any friends to name but that never stopped him from enjoying some of his favorite games; games like the Noble Knight, Dragon Slayer, and today's choice of games, The Hunt. Robert was too young to go on a real hunt with his father's men so he would imagine the adventure as only small boys can.

Reaching the edge of the field he noticed some movement in the high grass. "Is it the wind?" he asked in a hushed whisper.

"I don't believe so Master Robert." replied his long-time companion who never seemed to have a name but was always right beside the young Prince on these expeditions. "Notice how the grass seems to pace back and forth. The wind would never do that."

Robert nodded his head in agreement at his invisible friend's comment. Slowly he knelt down until his belly touched the ground. He began the silent, slow crawl toward the movement in the grass. Being the expert hunter, Prince Robert knew that the only animal in these parts that moved back and forth in that manner was the lion. He had never seen a lion alive before but his father always told him about his hunting trips and the animals they would kill.

Robert had to make quick work of his crawl because he had two things working against him. One, a lion will not stay in one place for very long. And two, it was going to be dark soon and his father does not like to wait on his dinner. Needless to say, Robert began doubling his "quiet" belly crawl to a rather loud hand-and-feet crawl.

He knew that he was close because he could hear the lion's labored breathing. Taking a deep breath he stood up just as the lion jumped into the air towards him. Robert quickly grabbed an arrow from the quiver and with lightning speed released the arrow into the air at the lion. HIT! The Lion fell to the ground and Robert was victorious.

The Prince jumped up and down
